With Queensland in the grip of a cost of living and homelessness crisis, QCOSS has become the first port of call for Queensland media seeking expert comment, advice, and analysis.

This year, QCOSS was featured in 3952 stories across state and national newsprint publications, television and radio programs, with a potential cumulative reach of approximately 61 million over the entire period.

Topics included housing and homelessness, cost of living, youth justice and human rights

Leaders Debate 2.jpg

March 2024

QCOSS partnered with The Courier Mail to host the first Leaders Debate of the election year between the Opposition Leader (David Crisafulli MP) and the Queensland Premier (Hon Steven Miles MP).

The debate ended with the Premier making a commitment that no Queenslander would be left to sleep rough.

April to July 2024

The three-month QCOSS Town Hall tour, which went to every major city in Queensland, coincided with extensive media coverage.

We made front page news with stories about Cairns families living in hotels, Toowoomba parents unable to send their children to school with food in their lunchboxes and Townsville parents dependent on Afterpay for basics.

We achieved more than 3500 media mentions reaching a potential audience of 32 million people during those tours.

The follow up report to A blueprint to tackle Queensland’s housing crisis, Breaking Ground was launched.

The report was written by Professor Hal Pawson and the UNSW City Future Research Centre team and was commissioned by QCOSS and the Town of Nowhere Partners.

News generated by the report’s release reached more than half a million listeners and viewers. The report praised the Queensland Labor Government’s ambitious social housing targets and, shortly after the report’s release, Opposition Leader David Crisafulli pledged to match these.
