Build a deep understanding of the entire community services sector in Queensland

Central to every part of QCOSS’ work is a deep understanding of the sector we represent. We meet regularly with our member organisations and other key community service stakeholders, so we know what’s happening on the ground in Queensland’s communities.

The inaugural QCOSS Community Sector Survey

Tailored for Queensland and built on the success of previous Australian Community Services Sector Surveys, the inaugural QCOSS Community Sector Survey in May 2024 captured information about how the community services sector is faring. Responses provided data and insights about service demand, workforce requirements and shortfalls, career pathways and capacity building needs.

The responses from a record-breaking 1308 Queensland community sector employees provides a strong evidence base for QCOSS’ upcoming State of the Sector report, expected in Q3 2024.

Establishing a Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Peak Body

In April 2024, the Queensland Government announced that QCOSS would be contracted to establish the first independent Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) peak for Queensland, with recruitment to begin immediately.

This new body, a key recommendation from the Women’s Justice and Safety Taskforce’s Hear Her Voice Report One, will advocate for and engage with DFV services. It will play a crucial role in informing policy, program, and service delivery improvements at all levels of government.

Over the next two to three years, QCOSS will also focus on providing a peak service, with the goal of transitioning to a fully independent DFV Peak Body.
